About the topic:

After the worst air disaster in history which occurred at the Las Palmas Airport in 1977 resulting is 583 fatalities, the results from the accident investigation indicated to a number of human errors that all contributed to the accident, all of which could have been avoided. The result was the development of a specialized training programme designed to reduce human error. The training was so successful in the aviation sector, that the maritime sector soon introduced a similar training programme.

The Maritime Resource Management programme has been specifically designed to ensure that incumbents undergo a complete paradigm shift with respect to the manner in which they communicate, collect and process information as well as immediately identify hazardous situations as well as hazardous thoughts. The course provides incumbents with the requisite skills to utilize all available resources, human or other, to make the most accurate decisions, within the available time, thereby reducing the potential for human error and accidents.

This programme includes modules such as; Communications, Teamwork, Situation Awareness, Cultural Awareness, Authority and Assertiveness, Management and Leadership, Challenge and response just to mention a few. This course is essential for every organization wishing to improve on safety, productivity, and efficiency.
