Visit Dutch Minister to ITS Surabaya

As part of the trade mission to Indonesia, Minister van Nieuwenhuizen (Ministry of Infrastructure & Water) visited Surabaya. An element of the programme was the visit to ITS, where a consortium, managed by lead partner STC International together with the counterparts Erasmus University (EUR), Rotterdam University of Applied Science (RUAS), STC-NESTRA B.V. (Nestra) and the Department of Marine Transportation Engineering (DMTE), Faculty of Marine Technology, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), has been working on a project for the establishment of the faculty of marine technology at ITS.

The main focus was on Capacity Building in Maritime Transportation & Logistics Education and Research. This project was made possible via Nuffic funds from the Netherlands.

In 2017, ITS experienced further development as outcome of the previously executed project. The department was awarded with a brand new building which was finished in December 2019 to further support the growth and potential of the department and faculty. During the visit of Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen to the new building of the department, an overview was provided about the previous project, the current cooperation between ITS and STC International regarding shipbuilding capacity building and the impact that the project generated in Indonesia for education and training in the field of maritime.

Moreover, during the visit a letter of intent was signed between the members of the PIB Shipbuilding (STC International, Damen Shipyards Group, Royal IHC, CSI Control Systems, Netherlands Maritime Technology) and ITS for cooperation on a variety of topics regarding research and education.
